Prayer (A Simple Approach)

A simple approach to prayer. This is to teach you how to pray simple. Prayer is very simple. There is no exact order to any of this. It is simply the way I learned to pray and am still learning and applying new things to my daily prayer life as well. I hope you are blessed by this and that it is a helpful outline. (And there is so much more to prayer than what I've put here. But, this is a great start.)

Praying is simple. Many people do it. And it's as simple as having a conversation with a friend. If you view it this way, it makes it so easy.

Here is a prayer directly from the Bible found in Matthew 6: 9 - 13 (NKJV)

9) In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10) Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. 11)  Give us this day our daily bread. 12) And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. 13) And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

In this prayer it begins with addressing "Our Father". Keep it simple, Start off by saying Father, God, Jesus, Dear God, Dear Father, Dear Jesus or whatever you feel comfortable opening with. (God knows your heart. You are talking to him in a personal manner. Treat it this way)

Then be thankful... Thank God for things he's done in your life or in the lives of others around you. Thank him for your salvation. Thank him for allowing you to make it through another day. Thank him for this day!

Pray for others. If there are needs in the lives and current situations of friends and/or family members, pray for it. Say something like "Lord, I pray for David and his current financial situation" or "God, help guide Samantha in her walk with you". Once again, you know who around you needs prayer. Focus on mentioning them. (sometimes it helps to write down things to pray for and read it as you pray)

Pray for our country and our leaders. Pray for the church you go to and for an understanding of the message that is preached and taught. Ask God to show you how to walk with him, pray to him and read the word.

Again, it is your time alone with God. When you are finished praying, say "In the name of Jesus" or "I ask these things in Jesus' name" or "I pray in Jesus' name". Whatever you feel comfortable with. Don't be overly repetitive. (God knows what the needs are. Simply ASK!)

Then when you feel your conversation with The Lord is over, end it with "AMEN", which simply translates to "So Be it". It means you are in agreement with everything that you've just asked God for and prayed about.
